For those that don't run in the same circles I do, a member of a community I frequent was murdered Sunday. We found out Monday and have pretty much been in a state of shock.

I've been alternating between shock, horror, and guilt. Guilt because I used to be okay friends with her, and then we just drifted. And now I can't ever fix that. It's made me reevalute the friendships I have now that are drifting.

Her family requested that donations be made in her name to a local no kill shelter. We were talking about it in the IRC chat for said community, and I looked at the website and noticed that engraved paw prints are offered. They cost $50 and people can either keep them or have them put on a nature trail type thing. I suggested getting one for her in the chat, the admin for the community sat up a paypal account for donations, and in a matter of hours over $300 (I think close to $400) flowed in for the paw prints. o_o

I'm positively thrilled so many people were enthusiastic about it, and we're in the process of figuring out what to put on the paw prints. We're getting four, since her avatar was a gryphon, and it seems very appropriate. :) People have had some great suggestions so far.

This sounds kind of ridiculous, but helping with this, putting stuff into motion that's concrete... it's helped. I know it's still going to haunt me and scare me (I've already made my boyfriend to promise to get VERY GOOD LOCKS for his door and keep them locked at ALL TIMES), but... it helps.

So there's a job opening near me looking for people with microbiology experience (check) and chemistry experience (check) to test meat. "Wet and dry tests", whatever that means. I was interested, but was like "muuuh I'm vegetarian, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be working with this. Morals."

Then I saw that it would pay $18/hour.

MORALS? WHAT ARE MORALS? For $18/hour there is little I wouldn't do. :D
